Tips For Selling

Listing your domain on Netfleet is easy.  We’ll do our bit to get the buyers to the site but then it’s down to you and how you create your listing.  The most important thing is to advertise a realistic price expectation.  Setting a target price that is 100 or even 1,000 times (believe me, we see this every week!) the most optimistic expectations just isn’t going to help.  It will turn buyers off straight away.  Of course there is no and can be no definitive valuation for any given domain name.  A domain name, just like any other commodity is worth what someone else is prepared to pay but there are some metrics you can use to judge a fair and reasonable estimation.

These include:

  1. Look at corresponding sales in other extensions, evaluate that extensions popularity in relation to your .au domain name and make a judgement.  Many people consider a generic com.au domain, for example, to be worth 1/20th – 1/50th of what the equivalent com domain would be worth. (Note this ratio can vary wildly depending on the domain.  E.g. parramatta.com.au would undoubtedly be worth more than parramatta.com)
  2. Consider the commercial potential of the domain.  A domain like mortgages.com.au would attract a very obvious & lucrative industry whereas weather.com.au, strong a keyword as it is may struggle
  3. Consider the technical qualities of the domain name.  Its age, length, keyword popularity in search, frequency in SERPs, whether it might lose traffic to the (non)plural equivalent etc
  4. Try to take an impartial stance on the name and use you gut instinct.  What would you buy it for if it were for sale?  What would you be happy with?

So, hopefully now you have an idea of what your domain is worth.  Set the target price accordingly and then consider the Minimum Offer.  This should be as low as possible to stimulate plenty of bidding activity (NOTE:  this figure does not mean that you must sell your domain if you get an offer higher) even if the offers are all much lower than you would expect.  You can always increase this figure later on.

Then through careful categorisation, keywords & description you have a good chance to really sell your domain.  Focus on the qualities & suggest ideas & concepts that could be useful.  Comment on the technical virtues of the domain if appropriate.

Then sit back & wait but don’t hesitate to make changes if you don’t see the results you were hoping for.  Feel free to contact us as well for independent advice is required.
