Mark – Netfleet Domain Blog https://www.netfleet.com.au/blog Netfleet.com.au | The .AU Aftermarket Tue, 26 Sep 2017 03:26:07 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=4.7.3 New Pricing from 1st August 2014 https://www.netfleet.com.au/blog/registrar/new-pricing-from-1st-august/ Mon, 07 Jul 2014 08:49:07 +0000 http://www.netfleet.com.au/blog/?p=977 Effective from 1st August we will introducing a new fee schedule for domain registrations, renewal and change of registrant at Netfleet. We will be implementing a differential pricing structure dependant on the number of domain names per account that are managed by Netfleet as the registrar.

The structure will be as follows (all prices are for 2 years registration, and inclusive of GST):

Number of Domains

Price per Domain

1 domain

$65.95

2 – 5 domains

$54.95

6 – 15 domains

$45.95

16 – 25 domains

$37.95

26 – 40 domains

$31.95

41 – 60 domains

$26.95

Over 60 domains

$21.95

For example, if you have 26 domains under management with Netfleet, your pricing for .au domain names will be $31.95.

As you can see, the more domain names you have with us, the cheaper the price will be – even as low as $21.95 which is
still among the lowest price available for .au registrations, renewals or ownership change.

Differential pricing will get applied once a week on Friday – meaning if you add domain names to Netfleet and join a new,
cheaper bracket, the pricing will get applied to your account on the following Friday. The number of domains is counted on
an individual account basis, and cannot be combined with other accounts.

Please note, this will not change the current Buyers Premium when purchasing domain names in either our expired auctions,
or through the Domain Catalogue.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to Contact Us

Thank you

What’s in a domain name? https://www.netfleet.com.au/blog/australian-domains/whats-in-a-domain-name/ Tue, 27 May 2014 03:42:46 +0000 http://www.netfleet.com.au/blog/?p=1000 What’s in a domain name? Quite a lot, actually. And a domain by any other name doesn’t necessarily smell as sweet. But before we get into that, what actually is a domain name? The simplest way to think of it is that it’s a website address, and we use them every day.

australian-domain-names dotau

So you know you can use them to buy stuff online, do your banking or check Facebook. But did you know that if you set your mind to it, you can actually make great money by investing in domain names?

You might have heard about the sale of the domain name ‘business.com’ for $7.5 million in 1999 after it was purchased only two years earlier for US$150,000, or the watermelon farmer whose multi-million dollar domainer career started with the purchase of watermelons.com for $3,000 back in 1997? That was the .com market way back when – now its Australia’s turn!

The reality is that a domain can be registered for as little as $20, so you don’t have to be a fat cat to get started. It’s a great hobby or work-at-home opportunity, and many Aussies have made hundreds of thousands buying and selling domain names.

InvestmentProperty.com.au – bought for $20, sold for $140,000. Hobart.com.au – bought for $1,000, sold for $65,000. Not a bad return for a ‘quick flip‘

Exactly how you create wealth from a domain name while you own it, and how much you can sell it for, depends on your own personal strategy as well as global news, markets and trends. Just like shares, the most obvious way is to buy low and sell high but the variations are almost endless.domainnameinvest

It’s all about coming up with a domain name that ‘clicks’, registering (or buying) it and making sure that it at least pays for its own annual registration fee. Once you’ve done that, here are just a few ways you can make money from your domain name investment:

• Advertising – Publish relevant advertisements on a domain (e.g. pay-per-click). Think of the ad revenue as ‘dividends’ for the time that you own the domain name.
• Leasing – If you don’t want to publish ads yourself, you can rent the domain name to other advertisers or interested parties.
• Buying and selling – Register a new domain name or buy one from another owner, then try to resell it to another domainer, a company who wants the domain for their own site, or an advertiser who likes the keywords.
• Developing a website – Create a business model and actually develop a website with unique content features and design.

In 2014 we hit 1 billion websites globally, and it’s a growing market with more and more domains registered every day. Buying a domain name can be a low spend, low risk investment with low ongoing cost and potentially high returns.

To get your portfolio started and buy the right domain names, all you need is your imagination, search tools like the Google Keyword Tool and a bit of common sense. There aren’t as many rules and regulations as other investments, but you do need to do your homework (auDA is the regulatory body for .au domain names) and get in quick before everyone else cottons on to the potential!

Merry Christmas from Netfleet https://www.netfleet.com.au/blog/updates/merry-christmas-from-netfleet/ Wed, 19 Dec 2012 05:20:03 +0000 http://www.netfleet.com.au/blog/?p=723

Merry Christmas from Netfleet

What happened to 2012?! As ever, it seems to have flown by as 2013 is upon us. It’s hard to believe that is has already been 4 1/2 years since the policy prohibiting Australian domain name sales was lifted. The domain investment community has grown from nothing to a busy, burgeoning industry that we are all part of, and no more so than in the past 12 months, thanks to the enthusiasm of buyers and sellers in our community, and through great domain name forums such as DNTrade.com.au.

Domain Name Trading on Netfleet in 2012

We are delighted to have sold a whopping 12,062 domain names in 2012 – an average of 33 every single day. We’ve also had some big sales this year, with some of most notable 5 figure sales to go through the door being:

HomeLoanCalculator.com.au

$33,001

CarInsurance.net.au

$30,001

CreditReport.com.au

$27,500

CreditCards.net.au

$22,002

CentralCoast.com.au

$22,000

Credit.com.au

$18,190

WeddingInvitations.com.au

$17,001

CarAuctions.com.au

$14,001

FreeBets.com.au

$13,345

It has been a record breaking year for .au domain name values, with prices nearly doubling. This is an encouraging metric for the future, and expected to continue for 2013 and beyond. You can search on our entire list of past domain name sales on Netfleet by going to our Research page, or if you prefer a graphical view of how the market is changing, be sure to check out our Domain Sales Graphs. There has never been a better time to build your portfolio – don’t forget our Auctions run every single day – and that includes Christmas Day.

Netfleet – The Number 1 Registrar in Australia

This year, we launched our public facing registrar system, and finally we were able to manage your domain names for you. “Built by domainers – for domainers” probably best describes our platform, and we have paid a huge amount of attention to bulk/mass functionality to cater for large domain portfolio owners – with bulk renewals, transfers, change of registrants, name server updates, and many other tools.

What’s more, our renewal rate for domain names is just $18.43 inc GST. These features have helped make us the Number 1 registrar in Australia for inbound transfers.

Transferring to a different registrar in Australia is free – so to see what all the hype is about, and transfer your domains to Netfleet.

A Lick of Paint and More

Another big change for us was the overhaul of our site, with a fresh new design and some important sales process changes. The design was created with simplicity in mind, to help attract new retail buyers to your domain names for sale. We’ve cut back on complication, and streamlined our sign up process which has seen a significant increase in new clients, helping us to record just fewer than 17,000 registered buyers and sellers. So welcome to clients new and old!

The biggest change to our sales process was the merging of our expired domain auction (both Australia and New Zealand), and our aftermarket auction in to the one platform. This means buyer focus is no longer diluted between the three, and all eyes are on the one auction platform, which ends every day at 2pm AEDT. This change has been quite dramatic and has more than doubled the number of sales per day, increased the average price by 40% with the total turnover per day quadrupling! So what are you waiting for? Auction your domain names now.

We have many exciting new initiatives to bring you in 2013 to help you buy and sell Australian domain names. As ever we value your feedback, comments and suggestions, so please do Contact Us and get in touch with one of the team.

From the whole team at Netfleet.com.au we would like to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Important Changes to Netfleet – Please Read Carefully https://www.netfleet.com.au/blog/updates/important-changes-to-netfleet-please-read-carefully/ Wed, 07 Nov 2012 23:55:08 +0000 http://www.netfleet.com.au/blog/?p=710 We have been busy updating the look and feel of Netfleet.com.au, and need to make you aware of some important changes that affect you.

Auctions

We have now merged all the different auction platforms on Netfleet in to the one – Snapper Australia, Snapper New Zealand and the Aftermarket Auctions now sit side by side on the one auction:

https://www.netfleet.com.au/auction/

As usual, we run a daily auction, however now all auctions will finish at the same time each day – 2pm AEST (Sydney time).  This includes New Zealand domains.

We have also removed the first bidder discount of $10 from all of our auctions, to remain consistent across the auctions.  Furthermore for consistency, all starting bids in our Auctions are $10, unless there is a reserve set.   All current domains in the what was called Aftermarket Auctions, have retained their default reserve of $100, however new domains added to our auctions will have a starting bid of $10, unless you set a reserve (which is free if your domain is with Netfleet).

For expired domain names, we have removed the standard cost of registration previously charged, and replaced it with a Buyers Premium (see below).

8% Commission for Domain Catalogue

Previously called our Standard Catalogue Listings, now renamed to Domain Catalogue, we are now charging 8% commission on final sale price.  The final sale price also no longer includes GST (if applicable depending on the sellers GST status).   All existing Domain Catalogue listings that have a Buy Now price, have automatically been increased by 8%.

Buyers Premium

The Buyers Premium is charged to all buyers on Netfleet, and includes the change of registrant cost/new registration cost, administration, and securely managing funds.   This amount is in addition to the winning bid amount, or offer amount, and is mandatory for all domains bought on Netfleet.

The Buyers Premium is $49.95 inc GST.

It is important to note in the case of expired domains for Australia and New Zealand, this fee replaces the cost of registration fee that applied before, which equates to the same charge.

We hope you enjoy the new Netfleet, if you have any question as ever, please Contact Us.

Portfolio Holder Report by AusRegistry https://www.netfleet.com.au/blog/ausregistry/portfolio-holder-report-by-ausregistry/ Fri, 26 Oct 2012 02:15:51 +0000 http://www.netfleet.com.au/blog/?p=697 In September, Netfleet along with the other 38 .au accredited registrars were invited to the AusRegistry Registrar Conference on the Gold Coast. It was the first attendance for Netfleet having recently been accredited, and was a superb opportunity to meet representatives from all the registrars that have helped build and continue to build the .au domain space.

One of the many highlights for us was the presentation on Portfolio Holders, and with AusRegistrys permission we have been able to publish it here.   AR consider a “Portfolio Holder” to be a registrant who owns over 50 domain names, of course some of these registrants would make up larger companies covering their brands/niches, however many are made up of the majority of clients we have on Netfleet – domainers.

We all love data, and this presentation wallows in it.  Before reading the article, have a guess on how many “Portfolio Owners” there are in .au?  And what percent of the entire market do you think they take up?   I for one, was entirely wrong!  Please follow the link below:

Registrar Conference 2012 – Portfolio Holder Report

Hope you enjoy

Thanks

Important Upcoming Changes on Netfleet.com.au https://www.netfleet.com.au/blog/domain-renewals/important-upcoming-changes-on-netfleet-com-au/ https://www.netfleet.com.au/blog/domain-renewals/important-upcoming-changes-on-netfleet-com-au/#comments Mon, 22 Oct 2012 00:48:30 +0000 http://www.netfleet.com.au/blog/?p=676 We have been busy the last few months redesigning the Netfleet.com.au site, and happy to say, at long last, we are now nearing completion. We are aiming to roll out Netfleet version 3 on October 31st, and with it many exciting new changes to how you can buy and sell domains with Netfleet.

The fundamental processes behind buying and selling domains will remain the same, however we are now putting a large focus on retail, end user buyers. The current site can appear intimidating to first time visitors, which has been the main driver for our refresh, so whilst we have continued to grow, and more domain sales than ever are getting over the line, we really want to carry forward this trend and make the site more appealing, easier and friendly to our retail clients.

So what’s in store for Netfleet.com.au?

Well, for one, here is a sneak preview of the new design for our home page:

We hope you like it!   Obviously it’s hard to get a proper feel for the new look, until we launch, but hopefully this gives you an indication of where we are trying to head.

Probably the biggest change to Netfleet that we are rolling out, is the amalgamation of our auction platforms.  Currently Snapper Auctions Australia, Snapper Auctions New Zealand, and Aftermarket Auctions are all in independent auctions, and Standard Catalogue Listings again fall in to their own separate area.   With the new design, we will merge all these platforms together in to the one auction, or as in the case of Standard Catalogue Listings, separated by specific views.

This means you just need to hit one URL for access to every domain for sale on Netfleet.com.au.  This focuses buyers in to the one area, rather than ping ponging around the site.  All auctions will end at exactly the same time – 2pm AEDT (1pm AEST) – so for that critical final 10 minutes of an auction, I expect we will experience quite a show.

To standardise the auction platforms, we will remove extended bidding from Aftermarket Auction domains.   We will also be lowering the starting bids for Aftermarket Auctions to $10 – to align with the other auctioned domains.

To keep things consistent for newcomers to the site, we will be adding a “Buyer’s Premium” to all domain names of $49.95.  For expired domains, this essentially replaces our cost of registration of the domain, which is currently $49.95.   For clients selling domains via auction or as standard catalogue listings, this will cover an administration fee (managing funds/support) and the Change of Registrant fee.

Due to popular demand, we will also see the return of the push to auction feature – where sellers will have the option of pushing a standard catalogue listing domain straight to auction, using the current bid price as the starting bid/reserve.   This is an excellent option for increasing bid activity on the domain name.

We will also be putting expired domains up for auction and available for bids as soon as they appear on the Official Domain Drop List, meaning you will have between 24-48 hours to bid on ‘naturally’ expired domain names, and in the case of pendingDelete domains, you could have up to 14 days.

So, we hope this has been interesting, and we will be in touch with any updates or developments over the next two weeks.

Best wishes,

The Netfleet Team

We Have A Winner! https://www.netfleet.com.au/blog/competition/we-have-a-winner/ Tue, 15 May 2012 05:33:11 +0000 http://www.netfleet.com.au/blog/?p=604 We are delighted to announce that we have a winner in our competition to win $2,000 with Netfleet.    Two weeks ago we set the challenge – guess the number of domains sold through Netfleet to win $2,000 in Snapper Auction credit:

http://www.netfleet.com.au/blog/domain-snapper/win-2000-with-netfleet-com-au/

We had huge interest in the competition – including some weird and wonderful and often amusing entries – ranging from 0 domains, up to  the dizzy heights of 600,000 domains!

We want to thank everyone who entered.   It was surprising how many of you were so close, however there can be only one winner.    Two people guessed the same number of domains, however one was submitted first, and as per our rules, takes the prize.

So to refresh your memory the question was:

How many domains has Netfleet.com.au sold since it’s launch in July 2008?

And the answer is………… 20,763 domains!

And the winner is…………. Morgan Payne with a superb guess just one hour from launching of 21,000 on 23rd April 13:54 via Twitter!

Thanks again to all that entered, better luck next time, and congratulations Morgan!

Thanks
