After some time since our last update, we’re back with the latest set of premium domain names that we’ve sold through our catalogue and daily auctions. As always, Netfleet will provide you our thoughts and commentary, with a view to help make your next domain name decision easier.
During this period, our highest selling domain was claimed by a lucrative two letter domain name – in this instance, ot.com.au. The name was secured for a final sum of $7,517.35, with the owner being a private company who currently hold a portfolio of Australian domains.
While the name does not feature any keywords or particular SEO appeal, it is likely to resonate as an acronym for business names, or products, which incorporate two words. There are immediate benefits for businesses with longer names to adopt a short name like this – providing it is relatable.
Two letter domains are much more likely to be remembered by customers, which attributes them a higher value among end users. As such, the market value of such domains has steadily increased over time, and as was the case with ot.com.au, domainers are prepared to acquire the domain with a view that its liquidity will help them flip it rather easily.
Making our list of premium domain names that have been captured by our lucky customers, quitsmoking.com.au was obtained at auction on the 3rd of August. Selling for a total value of $1,481.65, the domain was purchased by a sole trader who also owns several domains.
Given the increasing awareness surrounding the risks of smoking, and a push within the community to move towards ‘healthier’ lifestyles, one could presume that the domain’s descriptive keywords will support web traffic – particularly given the name also functions as a call to action.
At this stage, search data suggests 210 Australians search for the terms “quit smoking” on a monthly basis, while the site operates with a cost-per-click of $0.98. If the health conscious trend continues to grow, or governments levy further taxes on smoking in the future, it would be reasonable to assume this web traffic will improve. Nonetheless, as an investment, the name is likely to hold greater value to businesses in this area.
Rounding out the results, drk.com.au was purchased for $1,424.45. With its short yet flexible nature, which caters to the medical field as well as a potential abbreviation or acronym for businesses (including one ASX listed company), there was little surprise when we saw this name snapped up by none other than a doctor! No doubt possessing a shrewd business sense, the new owner would have realised the benefit associated in owning a short domain name that coincides with their title and personal name.
Not only is the domain likely to be incredibly memorable among the doctor’s existing patients, but it will also support the generation of new business through SEO-optimised content and ads. Furthermore, from an industry standpoint, the name is likely to support a professional image and outline the doctor’s experience and credentials – a move that is likely to further their career in the long run.
That’s it for this occasion, stay tuned for the latest updates in our next post.
Best wishes,
The Netfleet Team
